Campus Ministry
Faith, Freedom, Friendship
Welcome! We are the Episcopal Church at UCONN.
We’re Always Open…
Our doors are always open (literally!) for prayer or studying — with a snack center! Our worship and office space is at St Mark’s Chapel, just across the street from the chemistry building.
FAC(t)S, OUR UNDERGRAD STUDENT GROUP
“FAC(t)S” stands for the fellowship of anglican Christian students. We meet weekly for bible study, planning special events, and prayer. Each semester we go on retreat one weekend, we get our hands dirty in local service projects, and we are there for each other.
CHOIR and COVENTRY HOME GROUPS
Many of our grad students are in the choir which practices Thursday nights and is always a good time. Others hang out in small groups called Coventry Groups in homes. Contact Chris about the choir…
COOKIES & COMPLINE: MONDAY NIGHTS TWICE/MONTH
“Cookies and Compline” is every 2nd and 4th Monday at 9pm when UCONN is in session. Compline is an awesome, short, meditative prayer service that prepares us to settle down to rest. Cookies and hot chocolate are great for staying awake all night!
WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY: LUNCH WEDNESDAY @ NOON (Northwest dining-hall)
We meet once a week to catch-up, study the Bible and pray together. So far this semester this is the time that works for most people. We may start a second meeting if we need to.
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP
Also, come to Sunday morning worship, at 7:45am and 10am.
HISTORY AND IDENTITY
St Mark’s Chapel was founded as a partnership in 1955. A group of local Christians who needed a church closer to home joined with the Bishop of Connecticut who wanted to reach out and serve the University. Now in 2010, 55 years later St Mark’s is bigger and stronger but still has that two sided identity–a ‘normal’ church AND an outreach to UCONN.
Something we all have in common here is our hunger:
for ancient, living spiritual practices and for relevant, thoughtful fellowship.
We follow Jesus, we worship God through ancient sacraments, and we live the questions even when they don’t give us neat answers.
